Erella Grassiani works for the Pax Ludens Foundation as a Middle East expert. For the foundation, she lectures a course focused on the Greater Middle East Conflict at the University College Utrecht.
Erella is an anthropologist and lecturer at the department of Sociology and Cultural Anthropology of the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Prior to this appointment, she lectured at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU University of Amsterdam) for both the Department of Sociology and the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology.
She earned her PhD at the VU University of Amsterdam. Her research interests include the anthropology of the military, the anthropology of peace and conflict, privatized military companies, security issues and nationalism. Her forthcoming book Soldiering Under Occupation: Moral Numbing among Israeli Conscripts during the Al-Aqsa Intifada will be published with Berghahn Books in 2013.
